Come and join the L.W. Paul Living History Farm on January 20th between 9 AM and 12 PM for a pig-related celebration!
The public is welcome to Smokehouse Day and witness how families in the early 1900s would have preserved pork on a typical Horry County Farm.
Winter was a crucial time for farm families, as they relied heavily on home-preserved foods, especially when it came to curing pork.
Once the meat was cured, it sustained them through the winter and throughout the year.
Every part of the animal was used, from rendering fat into lard to creating dishes such as chitterlings, hog head cheese, and pickled pig’s feet.
Their Smokehouse Day demonstrations will include carving and preparing pork, salting and curing meat in the smokehouse, rendering lard, cooking demos, and much more!
Hours are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The L. W. Paul Living History Farm is located on Hwy. 701 N, 2279 Harris Shortcut Road in Conway, South Carolina.
