The annual Smoke on the Beach BBQ competition will be held Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place downtown Myrtle Beach.
The Smoke on the Beach BBQ Competition festivities begin at 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. Admission to this family-friendly event is FREE, but if you want to sample the goods, there is a small fee. This family-friendly event will also include food trucks and vendors, local brews, bounce houses and inflatables for kids to enjoy, face painting, and so much more.
Live music will be provided by the local band, Southern Kind.

Smoke on the Beach BBQ Competition Past Champions
In 2019, the “Hey Good Buddy” team took home the Overall championship trophy. “Backdraft BBQ” took the 2021 Overall title.
Here is the competition schedule:
Friday, May 19, 2023, 3-10 p.m. – Anything Butt Competition
The competition starts at 4 p.m. Competitors are responsible for all ingredients for the items prepared. Samples will be sold to attendees and winners will be chosen by the public and announced during the awards ceremony on Saturday.
Saturday, May 20, 2023, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. – BBQ Competition
Judging will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Winners will be announced from the Main Stage at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Smoke on the Beach Prize Money
BBQ Competition
1st Place – $2,500
2nd Place – $1,700
3rd Place – $1,200
Grand Champion – $500 to winning team (in order to qualify, you must participate in the rib competition)
Rib Competition (Additional Entry Fee of $50) 1st Place Only – Winner Takes All
Anything Butt Competition (People’s Choice)
1st Place – $800
2nd Place – $500
3rd Place – $300
Best Cooking Tent Competition – $100 to winning team

To register for the competition, download the application here. The cost is $200 per team with a $25 refundable clean-up fee after approved inspection. Entries are limited to the first 50 teams. Do you have the winning BBQ recipe? If you think you do and would like to enter this BBQ event? You could win part of the thousands of dollars of prize money that is available. This annual Myrtle Beach BBQ event is sanctioned by Southern BBQ Network (SBN).
Vendor applications are due March 20 and are $100 per space and can be downloaded here.
Interested sponsors will have their company’s logo on the event banner that will also be displayed at all Myrtle Beach Shrine Club events. The sponsorship form can be downloaded here.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Myrtle Beach Shrine Club and are not tax deductible.

Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place is located at the intersection of North Ocean Blvd and 8th Ave. North, one block south of the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel and Plyler Park. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is a short three minute walk away.
Off-street parking is available at the Boardwalk Parking garage. If you don’t mind walking a few blocks, more off-street metered parking is available close to the 2nd Ave. Pier.
